photo games

I've recently started playing around with some online photography challenges. photogamer.com caught my interest a few months ago, and promptly went dark. When I popped back in early in the new year, I saw that they'd started a new photo a day challenge. They post a word (fr'instance, toes, or tree, or inside) and you go take a photo of it that day. I enjoy exercizing my creativity to find a fun twist on the idea, and to produce a somewhat artistic photo. A few of my submissions (cursor over to see the challenge word):

As I was shooting the challenges on photogamer, I realized how much I LOVE taking macro shots. Just about anything looks amazing if you take a macro of it from the right angle, in the right light, etc. So, a little searching (have I mentioned I love the internet?) and I found macroday.com. It's basically the same as photogamer, except: macros only (obviously), only 1 photo challenge per week, and when the week is over, people can vote for their favorite. So, I've just completed my first macroday challenge: ink

If you have a digital camera, join me in the fun! Or just follow along and check out some of the amazing pictures that people take!

Anyone have any idea what this is about?
"In the general's north chamber the future is revealed." >>

UPDATE: yeah, anonymouse, it certainly looks ARGish. In fact, a thread has already been started on unfiction...

Free Rice

It's a fun little vocabulary test, plus the adviews the game generates pay for sending rice to famine-stricken regions of the world. I'm not sure that kind of aid does any good in the long run, but I do like playing vocabulary games, so what the heck.

After a couple of dozen questions, my vocab rating has stabilized at around 42-45. What does yours look like?

Vision games

My online friend and former coworker (well, that's what I heard, anyway) poppgrrl over at grrltalk has posted some lowtech but curiously amusing little vision tests / seek-and-finds. Popp on over and have a look. (heh-heh. get it? Popp on over to poppgrrl? I'm so damn funny.)

My god, do I want this...

There's a Scientific Batting Practice game up for auction on ebay right now! It's conveniently located in Woodstock, IL (no shipping costs). But it's over $500, and the reserve still hasn't been met. There's just no way I could end up with this game. Heck, if I begged advances on my birthday and Christmas for this year and next, I'd still probably be below reserve!

But I can dream, can't I? This is just an excellent game. It's got a great "contraption factor", and it's so weirdly layed out, and it's just plain fun to play! If I won the lottery, this is one of the first things I'd buy. If you want to try buying it for me (or for yourself - just promise I can play it sometimes), click the title for the link to the auction, and go nuts. Happy biddin!

Who truly knows me?

This is an fun little thingy. You can set up what I'd call a personal trivia test here, free of charge. Kinda cool. Stop by and see how well you know me, then set up your own test, if you like! Don't worry, I haven't picked any real embarassing questions, anyone can take the test!

Gnip Gnop Lives

I can't believe that Gnip Gnop is still around! If you aren't familiar with it, think of it as a rubber bands and ping-pong balls version of pong. But for some reason, you can still pick it up from Amazon for only $13.77. This is definitely going on my wishlist... The children must learn of gnipgnop!

Greatest Christmas Time Waster

Line Rider lets you draw lines, and then a poor little sap sleds down them. I say poor little sap because, eventually, the poor kid either slams into something or falls off his sled... or both. Endless entertainment. Enjoy! (Thanks to deviant art via webzen)
