"We want just reform," said Mayela Ruiz, another illegal immigrant. "I've been
here 15 years. I've worked hard, paid my taxes. I've had no problems with the
law and I'm afraid to leave my house. I want a law that would allow me to work
and live in freedom but not like a slave."
Ms. Ruiz, I want you to know that there is such a provision in US law. It's called "legal immigration" and nearly a million law-abiding people use this provision every year. Of course, it should come as no surprise that criminals support decriminalization of the crimes they commit. That's just self interest.
