Kidney Stone Update

Just got word: The Girl and Wife are on their way home from a visit to the doc. The analysis of TGs kidney stone is complete. It's nearly entirely composed of cystine, rather rare. The doc says that, while it isn't the best news, its something that can be dealt with. It looks like the initial treatment will just be adding an extra 20 oz of water to TG's daily intake. The web seems to indicate that, if this doesn't work, there'll be daily medication. Sigh. In addition to this, there is a wee stone in the kidney again, probably a fragment from the earlier stone. In light of this stone, and the fact that it's cystine, the stent will have to be removed earlier - in about two more weeks. sigh...

So this isn't over yet. Stay tuned for more exciting adventures of A Girl and her Kidney Stones!

Update: Found this site. Based on the symptoms and proposed treatment, I'd say (using my iMD) that The Girl has an inherited disease called Cystinuria. 1 in 7000 people has it, and 25% of kids with it pass their first stone before 10 years of age. It's all very weird that this is an inherited disease, since I don't know of anyone in either of our families who has it. More evidence for the switched at birth hypothesis.
