Bloody Hell!

So, the county extension office has gotten back to me about the critter I saw on my window screen this weekend. It's a Linden Borer.

Well, that explains a bit... like the holes bored into my Linden tree, f'rinstance. All this time, I thought I'd bumped the trunk of the tree while mowing, causing a dead spot to appear on the trunk the next Spring. Turns out, the dead spot is what happends when Linder Borer eggs hatch on the bark of your Linden and the larvae burrow into the bark. The holes in the dead spot are what happens when the larvae grow up and dig their way out of the tree to set up apartments of their own. Firewood is the net result. And now I've gotta find something else to plant there. Damn... I hate the tree-buying. They're either tiny or expensive. And either way, they get bugs and die.
