The artist explains that he has completed a trans-atlantic tunnel begun by his great-grandfather in the 1890's. The tunnel was being built to accomodate the Telectroscope, and optical contraption that would allow clear viewing of the other end of the tunnel. So, a person in NY could see what was happening in London, or vice versa.

heh heh...Nemo... such a cynical view of the world. You don't think it's possible to use mirrors and lenses to magnify an image from across the Pond? For shame.
And besides, it's not just 2 monitors and a fiber optic cable. It's 2 BIG monitors, an internet connection (perhaps your fabled "fiber optic cable" (glass cables?! who's induging in fantasy now?), and a really cool steam punk framing device. Its better than real, IT'S ART, BABY!
