Valuable Cargo

On the way in to work today, I ended up behind a semi that had the "Family Dollar" logo painted on the back. I started thinking about what a thankless job that must be. I mean, if you're trucking Kobe beef, or watches, or electronics across the country, you know that you've been entrusted with the responsiblity for hundreds of thousands of dollars, or perhaps millions of dollars of cargo. Drinking, doing drugs, or just plain not paying attention are clearly not acceptable. But when your truck is filled with a couple grand of crap for a dollar store, how do you manage to care? For instance, if your dispatcher is being an ass, why not just stop the rig in the middle of traffic, unhook the trailer and drive away? Consider it an homage to Bill Murray's performance in Stripes.

I'd rather have the rendering leftovers than a room full of 50 cent knicknacks.
