"(a) The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard.
(b) The classes of the militia are:
(1) the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard and the Naval Militia; and
(2) the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia. "
If you don't believe me, and want to search it online, I recommend the search term "10 USC Chapter 13". Or check it out on the house of representatives online copy of the US code. So, how does this law not come up in every discussion of the 2nd ammendment? Shit! I've got a responsibility here, and I've never been made aware of it. And I'm not sure I really want this responsibility. I mean, supposing that Congress calls me up for duty tommorrow. The last gun I fired was a BB gun, about 25 years ago. Not much of a marksmen, I'd guess. Maybe I'd better stop off and visit that shooting range down the street.
